Friday, January 15th, 1993
The Giants and Rangers announced a deal that was completed today. San Francisco sent 29-year-old RHP Mark Leiter to Texas for 30-year-old RHP Mark Portugal. Both teams appear happy with the outcome of the trade. The general managers told the Baseball News Network they felt the swap was beneficial for all parties involved.

Leiter has run up these career stats so far: 12 wins, 26 losses, 87 appearances, no saves, 408 innings pitched, 339 strikeouts and a 5.56 ERA.

Over the course of his career, Portugal has a won-lost record of 78 wins and 82 losses with 960 strikeouts in 1379.2 innings pitched with a lifetime 4.76 ERA.
