Padres Get One-Run Win at New York
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the San Diego Padres got the win.
The San Diego Padres eked out a 4-3 win versus the New York Mets at Shea Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Brian J. Anderson, who captured player of the game honors. Anderson went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. His record improves to 1-1.
The Padres got a big at-bat from catcher Lloyd McClendon. For the game, McClendon went 2-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs. In the top of the ninth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave San Diego a 4-3 lead.
"We put together a nice win," Anderson said.
With the loss, New York sinks to 5-3.
