Late Rally by Giants Secures Win
|
Oakland third baseman Kelly Gruber had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Gruber was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, even as San Francisco beat the Athletics, 4-3. Gruber was named the player of the game despite the loss. San Francisco reliever Jim Poole picked up the win to move to 1-0. Brent Gaff suffered the loss. With the win, San Francisco boosts its record to 1-1.
Having an impact for San Francisco was Rondell White. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the 21-year old left fielder had a run-scoring single to make the score 4-3, Giants.
"I felt good up there," said White. "I saw the ball well."
