Royals Waste Great Game from Hoiles
|
The Kansas City Royals got a sterling performance from catcher Chris Hoiles, but the Rangers still prevailed, 8-7. Hoiles was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 2-2 with 2 home runs and 3 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Jeff Calhoun converted his 10th save in 16 tries. Even with the win, the Rangers have a dismal 37-100 record.
Rico Brogna had a big 2-run single for the Rangers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Texas leading 6-5 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Mike Stanton and stroked the single to right. It was his 14th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rangers ahead, 8-5.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Brogna told a Texas Daily News reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
