Orioles Stymie Seattle, Take 6-1 Win
|
Baltimore Orioles starter Steve Avery pitched a strong game against the Seattle Pilots at Kingdome, leading the Orioles to a 6-1 win. In 8 innings, Avery surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Baltimore is now 81-51, 9½ games up in the United League East Division.
In the top of the 5th, Baltimore took the lead on a 2-run single by Kenny Lofton. At the time, the Orioles were trailing 1-0, but Lofton's hit with two outs against Seattle pitcher Randy Johnson put them in front, 2-1.
"Steve did a tremendous job," said Baltimore manager Sara Cole.
